Engine removal tips
I will be pulling out a 3vze & auto 4x4 trans. Any pitfalls I should watch out for? Is it possible to remove the engine/trans together or is seperation required? Thanx

a standard engine hoist may not elevate things high enough. if you have larger tires or a body lift you will need to deflate or remove the front wheels and set the truck down on stands to give you a bit more clearance. my b-i-l and i took the motor/tranny out of my 89 as one unit and separated it once it was out. you have to take out the crossmember either way.

My engine hoist got the engine clear but like lee mentioned the tranny was too heavy to clear without a little help... I used a come-along with a strap around the end of the tranny to get the tranny parallel with the ground and get it clear of the fenders. I didn't have to deflate my 32's this way but it was tight...
My advice is just go slow and make sure you have everything clear as you are pulling her up... It's easy to accidentally miss one of the connections and not realize it...
Putting it back in the truck was harder for me than taking them out as one unit.
Good Luck!
