Engine Rebuild

I have been forced to remove my head because a bosch plug electrode fell off into my cylinder. Anyways, I'm thinking that since its not too much more work i'm going to rebuild the motor because it does have 200k on it. I'm going to order my rebuild kit from engnbldr.com along with cam for more torque (anyone help me out 268?) I'm trying to get this done as fast and as cheap as possible. What do I need to get done at the machine shop besides getting my block decked and honed and head shaved? What is the cost roughly? Thanks for your help.

I'm thinking of rebuilding my engine too. Wow $1000 for it isn't too darn bad at all. The only thing that I'm worried about is the fact that I've never done it before.

Yea I have never done it before at all either, but I'm doing with a friend that has many times. $1000 does that include the parts as well? What all did you get? How long did it take?

i got new pistons .040 over, new osk timing set, new Asian/Toyota oil pump, new water pump, OEM bearings, complete gasket set. my crank was good so they just polished it. had my head completely rebuilt, rods reconditioned, block bored, hot tanked, magnafluxed. and i got a complete tune up, cap, plugs, wires, fuel filter. i also managed to squeeze in new oil and a filter into the budget also.

machine work time depends on what shop you use and there schedule.
motor build time depends on how good you are lol.

it took the shop that i go to about 2-3 weeks for machine work.. but there always busy.

it took me about 4 hours to pull my engine, about a day to put the new motor together, and about a day to install and get it running

Would you say boring it over makes a significant difference? I was thinking about doing that, but right now I'm just trying to do the bare minimum because I need my truck back.. Before I even start this project I'm going to pressure check the head and if its not bad I'll probably just do the HG, timing, and water pump. Ofcourse depending on the condition of my cylinder walls because I don't know what happened with the electrode that broke off the sparkplug.

boring it over does make a difference, but not one you can feel.
if the cylinder walls are in spec, then there is no need to bore.
