Blew my heag gasket and now im going to get it rebuilt. Im going to remove it myself, and was wondering what a full run of the mill rebuild on the 3VZ-E should cost? Whats the best route to go on this particular situation? Self rebuild? I need advice!! And rough price estimates?!!?

 

oh and if anyone want the truck as is. its for sale. 2800.

thats what im wondering. i cant find a solid rebuild kit and cant find a solid price for somone else to do a complete rebuild.

 

Pull it out, drop it off a cliff and swap a 3.4.

If you can pull a 3.0 out and rebuild it yourself, you can do an engine swap. The 3.4 is a way better engine, with fewer problems, more power, and better fuel economy.

im pretty sure that there is parts for a rebuild kit available...
depending on what you want to do to the motor, could cost up to 3 grand... 1200 just for the headgaskets... if you have a shop do it...

Well i had the same problem 2 weeks ago, blewn head gasket then decided its way too much work to just patch so i started hunting for parts. I found an awesome deal on GOOD parts from japan engines on ebay. For peace of mind i bought every part inside the engine, from timing belt and idlers to pistons and rings even the heads all new with no core charge for $1200 delivered to my door. I live in canada so im sure my shipping cost are higher than yours will be. I was confident that i would only have to get the pistons hung on the rods by someone else, and i did my own honing so in the long run about $1400 and the engine is new!

If you dont have any experience with rebuilding engines maybe look at the rebuilt long block route, there are some good deals on those on ebay as well for about $1595, one place in oregon warranties for the life of the truck as long as you own it. Don't know what its worth but it sounds good. Good luck!

You honed your own cylinders but couldn't hang the pistons?

Yes 3vz pistons are press fit, 22r are c clip style "floating". I was tempted to do my own but the thought of bending a rod or over heating it when reinstaling the pins back in made me nervous. Here in Arkansas,you can't give a 4runner with a blown 3vz-e motor away, let alone sell it for more than $500 bucks. I'm with RobD,pull it and drop it. If you are going to keep the truck then go with a warranty motor from some motor builder, because unless you really know what you are doing, the 3vz-e can be a real motherf!@#$%. And when you get it built it can break about as fast as you can look at it. They are the kind of motor that if you have a good one it would last a long time, but when they go bad there tost.
