Engine needs replacing, or rebuild!!

As the title states, the old yota 22re is about on its last leg. im personally BURNT OUT on engines!! I race, and fix my race motor all the time, last thing i want is to monkey with my daily!

I have heard of, and seen Putney's Custom Machining...and was curious to see if anyone has any feedback on their work, positive or otherwise. Anything would be appreciated.

Any other suggestions would be nice as well.

you should rebuild it your self I know it sucks but I work on diesels for a living and once you do it yourself it's pretty cool just my .02 but if you don't see about just getting a short block or even a long block and swaping parts

Thanks for the quick reply man. I build all my engines for my race car, and am in no way worried about putting together a 22re. it is just down time im worried about....and just being sick of building. I build at work, i build during race season....now it's winter...time for snow and wet trails, and the truck takes a dumps.

So....other than ripping it out for a few days...(borrowing no machine work is neccesary) and just rebuilding it myself....does anyone else have a suggetion?? any words of praise for other shops that have done you right??

Granted these engines run for 300k plus....they go sooner or later....what are those guys doing??

Well, I am in the NOOB camp, but I am also in the works-full-time-then-some professional crowd and I recently finished a LONG (for me) rebuild project and have my truck and up and running a full 3 months after starting. Granted a good 6 weeks of that was gobbled up by the machine shop, but seriously if you have a busy life it is not going to be quick and you better have backup transportation because something unexpected ALWAYS comes up (I don't have to be an experienced mechanic to know this axiom of life!)

I'm doing a two step with mine, replacing it with a good used engine to avoid any serious downtime, then will take my time on the rebuild with parts from www.engnbldr.com to eventually put a 0 mile engine back in mine.

For what it's worth, I got a 135K mile 3.0 for $800 and saw a few 22re(s) yanked out of totaled trucks while I was searching craigslist.

One of the guys on ih8mud wrote an app to search multiple cities within your state as well if you want to expand the search a little. I found one 250 miles away and it was delivered for a little under $100.

Plus you can sell the used running engine when you're through with it...
