engine breakin

i rebuilt the 22r engine in my 88toyota pickup new clutch and flywheel. i started and ran it this summer for about 1 mile no problems except i need to readjust valves but that is normal. the problem i have is i haven't run it since due to family problems deaths in the family, ect. now i want to drive it and break it on properly how do i do that? one person said run it hard then change oil a couple of times and call it good others say take it easy speed up,slowdown,up hill , down hill for a few thousand mile changing oil often which is right?
