Emissions Equipment questions.

OK b4 the flamage begins, let me state that I have searched extensively for the answer to this question.

I need to know whether or not to take the emissions equipment off my 4runner. I've seen some people say it's the best thing they did, and others say that it will totally screw everything up. Please convince me one way or the other. I'm trying to make my 22re perform as well as it can without compromising what makes it a great engine.

Thanks all,

depends. is this for street use, or for the sole purpose of off-road?

More on road than off unfortunately. I enjoy taking it off road, but it needs to be a DD. I don't have emissions testing here so smog legality is not an issue

then leave the muffler on at least (for reduced noise) and take the cat off. there are other members who know what to remove and what not to better than me. search around for egr delete, and i'm sure you'll find other things to get rid of

honestly, you probably wont notice a bit of a difference if you went and removed everything, unless all of the parts you removed were malfunctioning

Do it.

If for no other reason than it will no longer be able to dump the engine's waste products back into the intake for reconsumption. Which over time causes a build-up of air flow restricting/power robbing filth.

Here's an analogy to consider: For much the same reason we don't eat our own feces, your engine doesn't need to consume its either. No good can come from it. It was never designed, or intended, to be a good thing for any engine, nor could it ever be so.

I've talked myself blue in the face on this subject on many many occasions since joining this site. My words on it are backed by factual knowledge and sound reasoning. Umpteen idiots have tried to argue with me on it, and all have failed miserably. Being as the last such incident/thread was forced closed by the mods in order to save a couple such morons from burying themselves deeper in doodoo than they could ever hope to recover themselves from, I won't invite trouble to your thread here by elaborating more. So if you want the low down, click the link in my sig. Then type in my user name and search for the keyword EGR.

Enjoy!

Sweet thanks! Nice to get good solid info, instead of six people saying one thing and a half dozen another
