So the new front-running theory is that I have an exhaust leak that remains sealed during lower exhaust pressure at idle, however once the truck gets moving and the engine is pushing exhaust out harder, its leaking through the bad gasket or flange in the exhaust pipe/header allowing me to hear that rougher "chattery inside of the engine noise"

The next time I get it over 30, ill lean out of the window and try to get my cell phone up under the driver side wheel well for you guys.

Ill see what I can do about producing the noise in neutral with the hood popped.

One last attempt at a description: It sounds like a cross between when you stick a playing card into bicycle spokes to make that little kid "motorcycle" effect mixed with a light metallic ticking. Its almost like a crappy echo of the engine noise magnified.

Mine ticks at idle pretty audibly like most 22re engines do, I narrowed it down to my fuel injectors, and upon overtaking when I give it more gas while in low rpm under load it gets louder with the amount I push the pedal down. Yours may be injectors, too.

agreeing on the spark knock. check your distributor timing and make sure it is advancing properly under acceleration , even with higher octane itll still detonate under load if its not advancing or timed correctly. it will still start n run but will sharply tick under load. weak spark will do the same. if you find that your coil is weak i recommend a higher voltage aftermarket one like a blaster or super coil. oreo please
