Electrical problem with alternator???

i purchased an 86 yota and put in a new motor after the purchase. When i put in the new motor i noticed that the stock plug for the alternator was not the same for the new one on the swapped motor. Tried putting in the new alternator but the bracket wouldn't bracket in. I cut and sautered the wires to the new adapter to plug in. After i realized that the gas gauge and turn signals wouldn't work anymore. could there be anything related to it or not. i checked all fuses and also replaced the flasher for the turn signal with no luck. (the emergancy signals still work) hope this gets an answer, couldn't really get any answered from archived forums.

What year 22R or 22RE did you swap into your 86 toyota ?. If the plugs were diferent you should have just swapped the alternator from the original motor onto the new motor, it should have been a direct swap.
