EFI factory settings?????
Does anyone know what the factory settings are on the intake of a 87 4Runner 22RE?...ie, all the way down and 2 turns up or whatever.... I had a genius mess with the settings prior to purhcasing the vehicle and the air fuel mixture and backpressure are definitely not correct.
There is a flat screw on the front portion of the intake which has an "O" marking next to it, and also a blueish colored plastic nut with a spring that is over the fuel rail portion.
The long story short, the EGR tube was missing and replaced with a heater hose and therefore was collapsing and not getting proper air flow. I replaced the EGR and tube and now need to get the settings back to original so I can tune them in from there. The individual whom I bought it from admitted to messing with both the settings which seems to change the air flow or idle speed. I do not know what these settings are and cannot find them in the Hanes manual that I have. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Semper FI.

The flat screw on the throttle body is idle speed screw. There probably was a set factory setting, but its not going to be the same for a 24 yr old vehicle. Turn it until idle is at 750-800 (or wherever you want it). You also should adjust the ignition timing while you are at it.
Do you have A/C? If so, the other nut thing with a spring is probably the A/C idle up adjustment screw. Its used to adjust idle when the A/C is on using vacuum pressure from the intake. They are usually white though, but that description sounds like it.

That sounds right, the other is white and not blue after lifting the hood again. OK, then what would make a loss of power or boggish acceleration when the idle is set correctly. When you rev the motor, all sounds OK, but when I get going it is sluggish and will not go more than 50mph. The motor has only 120k. I changed the plug wires, plugs and air cleaner. it would not stay running at first, but will idle now on its own, just sluggish.
This is my first EFI and I'm not familiar with the joyous emissions.

Lots of things.
Ignition timing out of spec.
clogged air filter.
clogged cat converter.
vacuum leak in the intake. Are you sure you sealed up the EGR when you put the cast piping back on?
Valve lash out of spec.
cam timing out of spec.
transmission going bad.
Is the check engine light on at all?

Cool, thanks, I'm working on taking the exhaust off and replacing. I will check the ignition as well. Air flow into intake is OK.
Is there anything that plugs into the top of the Bi-metal vacuum swithing valve on the front portion of the motor just below the intake. It appears as something goes on top of it, but I cannot find any info yet.

There are no lights present, but will check the codes to ensure all is well. I will try and get pics and post asap. So far sounds like clogged catalytic converter and vacuum leak at BVSV.
I appreciate your help greatly....I will get some info on the systems checks and be back on in a few days.
