Question ECU differences??

i am looking for a ecu for a 94 pickup, 3.0 motor, manual tranny, and 4x4. i am wondering will a ecu out of a 4runner with the same motor/tranny/drivetrain work?? would one work out of another year (89-95) truck with the same motor/tranny/drivetrain work or do the #s have to exactly match??
my #s are: 89661-35870 (in the black under TOYOTA)
--in the 3 boxes under the previous #: 26P 16P 22p
has M/T for the manual tranny and HN is underlined on a seporate sticker. thanks

Stick with an ECU that reads 89661-35870. It's the only way to be sure you're getting one made for your truck.

The 26P 16P 22P indicated the number of pins in the connection plug.

I have a ECU for a 90 4Runner, I'll try to find it and see what the pt # is (it had an auto, so prob not the same)

Buddy has a ECU for a 94 Runner w/5speed. He's on vacation right now, but I know he would want to sell (needs cash for his truck). I'll see if the numbers match.

The one I have for a 90 4Runner 3.0 automatic is 89661-35441

Still haven't made it up to my buddies house yet to check the other one.

Do aftermarket ECU's make much of a difference in performance/efficiency?

The only aftermarket ECU that I know of is megasquirt and it wasn't offered as a drop-in solution for the toyota at all.. Honestly, I haven't set it up for the 3.0.

Generally speaking, if you have a stock motor there is no reason to go to an aftermarket ecu. If you'd doing a stroker, a turbo, or a motor with significant port work, they are very much worth it. I'm producing them for around $400.. Which is a heck of a lot less than LC's SDS system that runs $1700 after all the goodies are added.
