ECT Button on 95 4runner

I just got my runner last week and I was wondering what the ECT button does? I leave it on normal bcause i dont know if it'll make my runner into a bigger gas hog than what it is now.

The ECT button changes the shift points of your auto tranny. When engaged, the transmission shifts at a higher RPM. Gas mileage suffers because with more revolutions per minute more gas is needed. I use mine when going up big hills and that.
