Ect Button

ok so if you have a auto we all have the little ect button and we all know it increases power by having it on. Now my runner has 33s on it and in order to keep up with traffic on the uphill freeway i have to turn this on. The question is what is the downside of having this on i heard it uses more gas but I really have not seen a huge change any advice would be nice oh and i plan to re gear that will make a huge diffrence but if anyone knows why i should not drive with it on let me know.

All it does is electronically change the shift points in the transmission.

You will see a drop in mileage only if you can't keep your foot out of it.

Mine's on all the time.

If you're still curious, do a search for "ECT button" and you'll have plenty to read. '

By the way, welcome to YT.

I wouldnt say it gives more power. It changes the shifting pattern of the Auto trans. It will shift at higher RPMS. It will use more gas in the long run. Regearing is an option you can look at to gain more power at Hwy speeds.

Nah, I've had mine on constantly for a year, no problems. Again, all it does is change the shift points. Instead of shifting sooner in the RPM range, it holds out for a little longer.

just to chime in, i noticed that it will downshift more easily then its in pwr than when its in normal. i'm so used to having it in pwr that if i put it in normal while on the highway i tend to press more on the gas pedal in order for it to downshift and speed up. so in essence, I burn more gas.

Probably. Not having owned any GMs, I can't say for sure, but I would imagine it does the same thing. It just holds out the shift points to higher RPM's, which gets you a little further into the power band before shifting.

Extremely Cranked Transmission, or as my large deathmetal hessian friend calls it, the "More Power.. UunnnGH!!" button, which over the years deteriorated to "poppin' the hetfield".

*end useless data transmission
