What's cheaper 3.0 rebuild or crate motor??
Ok so I did a compression check, Now know why its idling like poo.. I have 150, 150, 60, 160 155 160.... SO I think i have a bad piston ring/s, I did pressurize the head but i haev no blow by so thats why i think this.. Anyways, It apparent that sometime in the near future, i will need a motor, question is, whats going to be cheaper, to pull out the 3.0 and rebuild it and have everything machined OR buy a crate 3.0 motor to take its place... Keep in mind im on a bidget and will be doing all the work myself.. The cheapest Long block i can find is over 2grand, i dont htink id spend that in a simple rebuild but this is my first yota so please enlighten me..... and Im not wanting to do any motor swaps, want to keep it stock...

can i ask why? why would you want an old outdated motor, when you can swap EASILY a nicer newer one that puts out more power? i think anyone would be crazy not to put the 3.4 in if they have the option.

Money and ease of install... I have access to the 3.4 but its 4800 for the long block only, the 3.0 is 2200 for the long block and i have all of the accessories for the motor already.. Plus id need an harness as im sure its not plug and play.. thats why.....

Thats awesome info.... Thank you... I just dont feel like having to deal with a swap, ive done plenty in my time and they're a pain in the ass regardless of how many kits there are out there.. Ive done SBC in 1st gen yota ive done 20vT in vw rabbit, 302 SBF in rangers as most recently 2004 dakota Hemi swap... Im done, there' is ALWAYS something that costs more MONEY which i dont have ALOT of unfortunatly.... Therefor, i stick with the ever ty 3.0 POS motor.. I can live with it.. Now, if the 3.4 bolted up, plugged in, no exhaust BS, no Batt relocate BS, no 1200 kit to make it easy, id be into it.. I think im just going to source a used 3.0, send it off to the machine shop, get it rebuilt for 1000.00 and not have to deal with any BS that i dont have to.. If i wanted to drive something fast Id drive my dodge dakota with a Hemi swap that i did in it..

Wow, guys are buying written off trucks with 3.4s in them for way less than $4800. I bought my 3.4, complete, for $2000.
But give'er, if you want to rebuild.

Scored a 3.0 from a local wrecker for 280.00... will be dropping it at my machinist in the morning.. Will be a straight forward re-build with the exception to the JE pistons im going to use.. This will cost me under 1200.00 for a fresh 3 liter with JE's.... I can handle this.. Thanks for all the input and "reasoning" for the swap, it is appreciated... When i do, I will probably go witth th 3.4, it seems like a very easy and great swap to do.. Just cat afford it right now... I did find an 3.4 at the wrecker also but it was from an auto truck and I really dont want to have to swap to an auto.. Thanks guys..
