I've read quite a bit about the Auotpal on different forums and although most folks seem to like them, especially the price, I don't think I'm going to buy them.
I've been talking with Daniel Stern from danielsternlighting.com. His products are considerably more expensive but I think my headlights are a critical system that I don't want to skimp on.
I'm sure I'll get laughed out here for my decision. I'm certainly not turning my nose up at anyone with the Autopals who have saved money and are happy with the product's performance. This thread has been very helpful.

so you think the autopals arent safe enough. so im skimping on a critical system by buying these ebay lights over 10 dollar sealed beams u buy at a store that are so bad u cant see anything at night. even if these are cheapo, theyre still way better than those 6 dollar h4 conversion lights and the pieces of garbage sealed beams soold in stores.

The autopals are fine. I'm pretty sure the beam pattern on the lens is the same or very similar to that on the Hella H4 enclosures, and Hella has spent plenty of mone on R&D to get it right. The ones on Daniel Stern's site are PIAAs which I'm sure are perfectly good ie on the same level as the Hella and the Autopals. I'm sure there's minor differences, but you wouldn't be skimping on a piece of important safety equiptment.

I also don't think there is any harm in not agreeing with everyone on any particular mod or saying so in the respectful way that I did. What you've done to your truck is perfectly fine and legit, and I reserve the right to follow suit or not to and simply state why. That is all. I have never bashed anybody's rig on yotatech or any forum.

Put in the DOT legal H4 conversions tonight. These lights:

I ugraded to the 100/55 W white bulb.
Talk about an easy swap, I have all brand new clips on my grill, so, just popped it off with no problems, and unscrewed the bezels around the sealed beams. When I last replaced the sealed beams I swapped out the screws for stainless M4 x .7 cusp washer, T20 drive machine screws. Stock hardware in lab stock where I work. That made it easier than fighting the damn rusted Philips that were in there before.
I left the sealed beams dangling on the harness so that I could measure my voltage drop from the battery. With the engine off, ignition on, lights on low beam I measured 11.96 V across the battery. At the lights I measured 11.63 to 11.69. Not much of a drop to the lights.
I am not that confident in the water sealing of the rubber boot that comes with the lights. I may put some silicon on the seal tomorrow just to be sure.
They bolted in quick and easy. I did a minor adjustment to one light, but that was it.
I took pics, they suck, I will not bother posting them.
On Low beam they are vastly superior. Far more infill and spread. A huge difference.
On High beam, not so much. More light down the road, but significantly less spread on the sides. I would almost say that I liked the sealed beam on high better, due to the side of the road coverage.
Now, I do not think the majority of the guys posting on here bought the DOT legal lights. They seem to have gotten the "E" code lights. Maybe that is the difference on high beam that I am seeing.

I went with the autopals DOT version. Way better than stock and was cheap ...shoulda went with a stronger bulb but planning to get a new harness first.

That is my only complaint so far. Like you said, a cheap upgrade, and easy. I started at 9:15 last night and drove it out of the garage at 9:40.
My two year old is in my lap while I am typing this. He wants me to post the big campfire picture. Nothing meant by it, he wants to see it and he is too damn cute to say no:

i should receive the package in a couple of days. i will post pics once i install the lights. i hope my lights dont break during shipping because i didnt pay for iinsurance, because i had just enough money in paypal to buy them and i didnt want to wait a week for more money to clear.

after reading this entire thread, it seems that the ones who ordered the ecode (non DOT approved lights) are much happier with the lights than those who have ordered the DOT approved ones.
I'm on the fence as to which ones to order. I like the idea of having a DOT approved light, but at the same time, i'd prefer to have the better performance lights.
I plan to run an HID conversion in the near future with whatever housings I decide to get.
So in a nutshell, which would be ones better option? the dot approved, or non dot approved?
On a side note, it seems that the diamond cut ones, are out of the question as nobody seems to be happy with them at all.
I'm on the fence as to which ones to order. I like the idea of having a DOT approved light, but at the same time, i'd prefer to have the better performance lights.
