$15 at Amazon, comes with different contacts for the various Toyota starters...
They were only $5 when I bought them wholesale at an auto electric store.

remanufactured starters
Ordered a starter through auto zone. The Dura-last failed the bench test before I left the store with it. Need I say more? Previously ordered starter remanufactured by BBB Industries through auto suppy store and had my mechanic install it along with new wiring and new battery. Failed within 5 weeks and had to be towed. Second one from same company failed within 3 weeks. Now ordered one from California, Nippodenso and am stuck without transportation for another week. The problem is the law of Caveat Emptor exists "let the buyer beware." The manufacturers don't give an unlimited lifetime warrantee. It's usually the store where you purchase it. A refund is all they offer. Most starters are warranteed for a year from the remanufacturer. I talked to customer service at Remy/AKA/Borg Warner and they make remanufactured starters. His distributor said it's better to buy through ebay even if you pay a little more. Auto parts stores and mechanics cannot stand behind the performance issues of remanufactured products. Make sure before you order online that the supplier will reimburse you for any tow if the unit fails under warrantee. Autopartswarehouse offers up to $60. per tow no more than 3 a year should the starter leave you stranded. Hopefully I won't have a problem. Will post follow up later.

It has been almost a year and my Remy 99600 starter is still working great. I did buy a remanufactured full size starter with a lifetime warranty to keep as a spare. I like having a lifetime warranty. It isn't a perfect solution, as you say you can still be stuck with a towing bill. If you buy on line, you may have to pay to ship it back.

I bought OEM Reman for Reliability and No Hassle
I bought remanufactured for Toyota OEM because I wasn't sure what starter was on my truck (definitely not Toyota stock) so to take it out shop for the correct contacts then replace it would have been too much work (take out, disassemble, find out what contacts it needs, reassemble, re-install), trouble and downtime, not to mention the fact that because it was not stock, it would not be honored as "core" for OEM part.
Definitely worth the higher price, considering:
1) Reliability,
2) Higher cranking power (1.4kW, vs original 1kW),
3) I know exactly what contacts it would need when time comes,
4) It is OEM core so will be honored if I have to replace the whole starter later.
