drivetrain/powerplant swap
I currently own a 91 4cyl pickup with an automatic transmission.
I have a truck which i am thinking about using as a donor truck. It is about the same year but 2wd. Im planning to rebuild the engine with a kit from lcengineering. The only thing i am not sure intirely what i need for it swapping the transmission. If its possible i want to swap out my automatic for the 5spd in the donor truck. What would i need to do it and would the 2wd 5spd work properly?

if it bolts right up you should be fine, however, youd need an ECU compatible with that 5spd but you also need one for the 4wd methinks...
on second thought, i think 4wd has its own ecu so you may just be able to snag the ecu from the 2wd...

Manual transmission/transfer case setups of that era are "brainless", no ECU. There's a connection mechanically to the speedo, and a plug for the 4WD indicator light, both on the transfer case. No transmission electronics for 5spd.

thanks for the links, they will definately help when i get my project fully underway. im going to dig out the book and alldata program and check it out some more tomarrow.
as for engnbldr i was unsure as to the uality and durability of their products.
a close friend of mine works at a local parts house that carries loads of performace stuff. i was thinking about getting some stuff through them like the cam maybe.
