Ok... started putting the 4runner front end on the truck yesterday. We took the bed off the truck today to clean it up and start sanding the cab and fix some things before priming/painting the truck (haven't decided yet because I still want to do the body swap) and noticed that evidently, on hard bumps, the cab cross member has been hitting my drive shaft. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, how did you solve it? From what I can tell, the damage is only superficial scratches that go around the shaft. I just want to take whatever preventive measures I can before it gets too bad. I have the torsions turned down a little, a b/j flip, 3" blocks, cut bump stops, and a pulled middle leaf. I've been looking at the bump stops that Beefed Taco sells and I was just wondering if it would only get worse with something that short or if that's what I need. Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated so thanks in advance.

Put that leaf pack in and get your self some bumpstops.

ahh i understand now its hitting the horse collar...if you dont have bumps out back this is gonna happen...especially if you pulled a leaf from the leaf pack..just get some bumps and ull be good to go...should be fine for now just dont hit any sweet jumps

Not unheard of to notch the bottom of the cross member for added clearance. Usually taking out the bottom and half the middle web is no problem and adds clearance.

I raised mine up an inch (actually 3" total less the 2" I raised the t-case, so 1" net) for added clearance. Mine would hit the CV joint and knock the grease zerks out on the trail:

so... he slammed a 4wd truck? unless he body swapped the 4runner over to a 2wd..

oh i missed that part. whatever it is, he lowered it. dont ask me why though... maybe he's just super short and couldnt get in lol

When I said "started putting the 4runner front end on", I was referring to me doing the front end conversion. I would love to do the body swap but haven't found a donor truck as of yet.

4Crawler: If I cut out that section, you're saying that structurally, that crossmember would be still be strong enough?

DeathCougar: Not trying to start anything, but that sticky you told me to read has absolutely nothing to do with LOWERING a truck. Everything in that thread pertains to LIFTING a truck. I don't know if you read my question in it's entirety or like peow130 misunderstood the direction I was heading. Either way, I tend to look for subjects pertaining to my issues BEFORE I post a question. Like I said, not trying to start anything but I felt that that needed to be understood.

I had to clearance mine after dual case and cv joint dl. i got a piece of 10" pipe and used half pipe piece to make an arch piece to weld into place once I clearance the yoke.
