Drive line play/clunking
Hey all, first post here..
I have an 87 turbo SR5 that I bought last November, the truck has 320k on the chassis and about 60k on a rebuilt motor, not sure if the tranny was overhauled at the same time. The truck has devoloped a wicked clunk when I put it in gear and the drive line has quite a bit of lateral play - I can rotate it probably a good 2 inches back and forth by hand and it makes a nasty clunk. It seems like the problem is probably the u joints but there isn't any visible play in the joints themselves; the play seems to be from within the transfer case. Anyone have any insight into what the problem might be? Again, I haven't had the truck very long and haven't had much chance to learn about it yet...
