but im not agreeing with him, for my FIPK draws in hot engine bay air only. The OEM intake did not. The FIPK performed much better than OEM did in hot weather.

i just dont understand how drilling maybe 10-15 holes is going to make THAT much of a difference. i wanted this for 2 reasons. 1 the sucking sound would be cool, and 2 more air to breathe, hell yes. i cant see that sucking air from 10 small holes could decrese performance that much, when the fpik kit is totally outside and exposed.

i dont care i will do this damn isr mod.

if i cant get it smogged, ill get it "fake smogged" heheheheheh
i know a place that will do it, my moms cobra didnt smog cuz she has sooo much good stuff on that car, ill do the same.

cold air vs. hot air:

i happened to watch a lot of "myth buster" on Discovry channel. one thing i've heard on the program was about the commom combustion engine, to make more power, it requires 2 things, more fuel + more air. air means Oxygen, with the same volume, cold air holds more O2 than warm air, that's why people use aftermarket "Cold Air intake" kit for extra performance.

 

lol checked my intake temp the other day cause i just have a cone filter sitting in my engine bay right now. with an ambient tempature of around 75 degrees, my underhood/intake temp was 125 degrees.

there is going to be a huge differnce in power if you sucking in warm 125+ degree air or your sucking in cooler 75 degree air.

if you want to see the differnce between air volume at these too tempatures fill a balloon at 75 degrees and warm it too 125 degrees it will probably at least increase in size buy at least by half. thats not even a true measurement of how much the air expends at that tempature because its under pressure.

 

I wrapped my intake tubes with some leftover header tape I had, (did the same mod to my old 5.0) to insulate the air passage. It definatly keeps the radiator heat off the tube. I don't like wrapping the headers with tape but that's a different thread alltogether.

 

What did you do with the hose that goes to the "stupid trapazoid box" I was looking at mine today and didnt know what to do with that hose.

ok my filter location, is right underneath. On cold dayz my truck pulls like no other, but as for the trapazoid thing, that came with the truck n if i would to take that off, it wouldnt pass somg and also makes a werid loud noise that doesnt sound right.

Also the funny thing is that you guys dont think it will pass smog?? but it did pass with flying colors and especially in cali. i even went to a state ref. and they passed it!

Also that trap. is a silencer i believe, cuz without it its crazy loud!

 

Infiltrator, All you need to do is keep your stock stuff around. And when the two year mark comes to smog your rig, just put it back on.
I did the ISR mod, didn't take it off to smog and I had no problem. Granted I don't have a full deck plate mod, I just wanted to get rid of the silencer thing. I ran a 4" pipe through the fender and took off my plastic wheel housing cover, I know it's open to the mud and stuff but when it rains I'll change it. My 2cents.

 

lol,somethin you dont understand here ,i got like a HUNDRED holes in my air box.not 10 or 15,and some of hem are pretty big,im telling ya.

 

so basically i have a choice of k&n intake, isr mod, or deckplate... hmmm...
i know k&n is the most expensive of these 2....

but its hot down here in so cal and to tell you guys the truth, i can feel it in my truck on the hot days.... lately its been 110 last week... i feel soo bad when i have to drive my yota home.

i think im going to do the k&n because, i dont offroad too much, i do drive some gravel, and go camping, and fishing in the runner quite often though... i just honestly wish they made a truflow for the 3.0 engine

i mean, the k&n has to be just as easy as the isr to install right?

 

why dont you just do an install like mine since you dont off road........

 

yours is just the isr mod right? but you moved the airbox somewhere else?

Just took it out and connected the hoses together and yah it's louder, wasn't trying to quiet. As far as passing smog I don't see how it wouldn't on a normal day as all we are doing is removing a restricted flow and not removing any recirculating pathways. Think about it, the chambers do nothing to alter smog, just empty plastic boxes and pipes.

I think we where saying since in cali you need some sort of C.A.R.B approved crap for any intake mods or somthing. I would assume the ISR mod would help the engine perform better without pulluting more.

 

for the isr mod im doing, i can remove everything, and ive read the thread from bob on it too. what i need help with is the little hose "plug ins" can i get those at home depot?

and, he said to use air ducting to make a model of it. will the ducting stay in place at that angle?

shoes, your pipe looks pretty tight, why didnt you give it some room? you got tons of space near the brake fluid.

 

Just go to home depo and get:

1 brass fitting with a 1/8" barb
and 1 brass fitting with a 1/4" barb.

I couldnt find 90 degree ones.
But im using ABS plastic piping for my ISR mod.

 

I used the brass gas fittings from Home Depot and some thread loc, the flexible tubing will hold its shape. I didn't bother with a test fit, just ran down to the muffler shop popped the hood and they bent it there. 10 or 12 bucks and a 10 minute wait.
