Question doesn't turn over, just clicks

Nothin's been wrong for a while so I'm a little rusty.

Sometimes when I go to start her up, the starter will click like 5-10 times before it turns over. So I'll have to turn the key 5-10 times before it starts.

This should be an easy one, Thanks yall.

I would guess either the starter or solenoid is going bad.

Replace the starter or keep a crowbar handy so you can smack the starter a few times. That usually does the trick but it will only get worse until you replace the starter. You can clean the brushes too or something like that...or just replace those but I just replace the whole thing so I can get the lifetime warranty...eventually, I'll find a good one that I don't have to take back.

Are you sure your battery contacts are good and clean?

Sounds like the Starter Contacts!

But first check:
-Battery Contacts
-All cables and wires from battery to starter, make sure all cables are good and all contacts are clean.

Battery cables/terminals cleaned, and the starter terminal cleaned (where the main wire bolts on).

90% chance that'll fix it

exact same thing happened to me. Started doing it a few times, then more often, then it wouldn't start. $3 worth of contacts and it cranks like new.

I say starter contacts. Took mine and built them up with silver solder and are good as new. Same with 2 other yota pickups.

i know every one says contacts but sometimes it's more than that. I had the same problem for a while went threw a starter every month or so finaly i snaped and chased the wireing down. There is a starter relay on some trucks on the pasenger side inner fender of the engine bay, I took it apart to find out the contact of the relay was fried being that it was prematurly wearing out the starters contacts. long story short i swaped it out for good one and also replaced the starter contacts and the problem is no more

So, you're getting good battery contact, then? Why not start simple?

Battery contact is good. But I'll give it another check.

like i said check and double check the battery contacts, and the contact where the big wire goes into the starter.

no reason to have to pull the starter unless you really need to

I had a different problem. The ign. wire wasn't giving enough power to kick over the solenoid. So I ran the ign. wire to a relay that, when I turned the key, sent direct power to the coil from the battery and kicked the starter over every time. I went through 3 starters before I figured this out. Also, I have a body lift. If you don't get the wheel well guards that are longer, the tire sprays the starter with whatever you run over and also kills the starter. Good luck.
