Question Does anyone know what the heck this is??

I have to remove most my dash to get to my gauge cluster, and I understand that I need to remove the climate control panel to get to a screw back there. I ran into an issue when on of the switch knobs wouldn't come off. This switch is different than all the other one an seems to be attached to the lever very securely. I think that the previous owner put it on and I'm not sure if it's super glued on or there's some sort of trick to getting it off.

here's a picture of it:

What I'm wondering is if anyone has seen anything like this and knows how to remove it, otherwise I'm going to have to take a saw to it. (this is on my 1992 4x4)

Looks like a random junkyard replacement.
might try a small pry bar with a metal backer to spread the load.
it would suck to crack the crap out of the face p.klate but you are probably right and its glued or expoxied on. I have been tempted to do the same thing to mine. It pops off all the time

I'd take a big set of pliers and bust the knob off then replace itwith a factory one. Knob is cheaper than a face plate

haha yeah I was considering that but I'm afraid I'll yank the lever out with it. The thing is REALLY stuck on there. I'll probably end up using my small Milwaukee saw I use for cutting pipe and just saw it off into a few pieces and put an OEM one on.

Got a heat gun? Even epoxies will soften with heat. I'd cover the face plate with something, though. It's not very thick, and probably doesn't like to be hot.

Yeah that is not the factory part for these vehicles. Good news is it looks to be hard plastic, cut it in half vertically with a pair of side cutters and it will likely split right in two.

As someone else said, get a big channel lock and crush the knob. Break it into pieces.
