And congrats on the new ride.

A worn out RT would be a great find at $2k, Put a new t3/t4 if needed and it will do great, Do a second rebuild in the meantime with a nice valves and cam and its better then the 3vz with better gasmilage and altitude compensasion for those mountain trails.
If I am correct the auto is not ECU metered and you can 5spd swap easly if you wanted to.
You hit the sweetspot with thatone.

this truck was for sale for months, I passed it every day on the way to work never giving it a second thought. one day I took a look, not bad shape,so I offered $1200 but the owner pased. said he had someone already to give him $2000. more time passed, the truck was still there. I called back he didnt remember me and just wanted to get rid of the truck at this point and now I own a 86 4runner along with my 99 of coarse.

You guys gotta realize that most 1st gens aren't worth diddly on paper...to the insurance companies and bank...one in GREAT shape isn't worth more than about $1200.

First rule of negotiations on a 1st gen, never offer what they ask...offer half that with the cash in your hand.

Show me the money is a great motivator for a seller!

And since this 1st gen had been sitting there for that long...it was waiting to be plucked.

$500 is still a STEAL though and you could junk it out and part it for more than that easily. You should drive it back by his house when you get it fixed up later and ask him to go for a ride.

I agree.. with minimal rust & a new tranny (should have receipts), it's worth 2k.
A manual swap is relatively easy.

Understand that the 22RTE is an expensive motor at that mileage and you should assume you're going to need a new turbo (or major work) - the ct20 is so expensive to work on that you'll probably have to swap...

Head prone to cracking
