Funny, gravel really isn't that good at aiding in traction on snow.
Especially when they dump gravel after the first inch, then it stops snowing, then it snows another foot lol.

Up at my folks place they use dirt, as it's too cold for salt to do much of anything. On the drive up, it's not a big deal.... salt in the lower half of the state, then sand/dirt for the upper half. Coming back, on the other hand, it sucks. The front end gets pelted with dirt, grit, and the occasional rock, then it gets immediately coated over by a layer of salt on the southern leg of the drive. It makes me cringe just thinking about it.

HATE salt. Love the places out west that use volcanic cinders - their dark color does attract some heat from the sun and does melt the ice some. Not as much as salt, but I still much prefer the cinders.

They use gravel probably 99% of the time here. The only place I know they use salt is in Anchorage.

they use sand here on the state highways...then on the interstate highways they use salt..in town it's salt as well..sand actually helps..i guess it just gives better traction? hell idk LOL

now that i remember it...i needa give my truck a dang good wash...no need to let a rust free truck start rusting now!!

Even with as little salt as we get on the roads here in central arkansas, It bothers me worse than just about anything.
