Distributor Swap ?.

I was on the marlin crawler forums yesterday and was reading a thread were it was saying that you could swap a 20R distributor in place of a 22RE distributor and you could possibly gain some performance, there reason for this is that the star wheel on the 22RE distributor comes to a point so you have a smaller contact point with the distributor cap contacts, and the star wheel on the 20R distributor is flat on the end giving more contact between the star wheel and distributor cap contacts. Are there any gains to be had by swapping distributors ?. any opinions are appreciated.

this sounds interesting.
can you be more specific about the 'star' wheel you're talking about, or point at the thread over there....?

Does anybody have any information on this, and do you think there is anything to be gained by doing it ?.

i'm wondering if it's just that the 20r distributor (IIRC, I'm still reading across that thread) has a vacuum advance system and that is causing the sensation of more power?

well the vacuum advance would bring advance in sooner than the ECU would advance the timing, and then the knock sensor would retard the timing if any detonation occured. so there may not be more advance occurring, but just it coming in sooner... or maybe not...
purely conjecture on my part for now.

I was looking at my 85 FSM and the star wheel there refering to is the signal rotor and that is what triggers the pick up coil, thats all ive been able to come up with for now.
