disconnecting front axles

Im in a bit of a bind. I pulled my front right hub to service it via the walk through online (thanks for the rec waskilly if that was you) but the front plate cracked and shattered and I can't find a replacement without spending say 190 bucks... damn... so I being a broke college student soon to make money (I hope) am considering disconnecting the front axles from the transfer case. anyone done this? can I still drive if i pull out the axles anything exposed etc etc? any other options to make her drivable for a few weeks. and by that I mean probably two months? I live in Ca with no rain during the summer and wheeling obviously wont be an option. anyway. let me know this is a cry for help... titanic style

x2, I don't get it.

Until I understand what broke, I can't understand what needs to be removed to run it without that peice. Also, we need some truck info, running without a birf in an '85 may not be as bad as running without a CV in an '86.

There's a thread on here somewhere where the topic of driving without the cv's was discussed.

It depends on your year/model. Do a search for "cv axle" and you should find it somewhere.

I know on mine (93 pickup), you can take them off and drive without them. On the newer tacomas I don't think you can.

What type of truck you have basically, unless you have done an SAS or something like that.

So, your profile says:
86' yota pick-up 2.4 22r. 2" body kit 31" BFG AT's
which helps, but I think people are confused about what you mean by "front plate". What plate? A rotor? The friction plate in the hub?

Also, you can save some time on getting responses if you set your signature to (at least) be that profile text so people know what year truck you're talking about.

Get it from trx125 or search the for sale threads. I think I saw some on there too. You could also look local in a scrap-yard.

Whatever you do don't pay $190 at the stealership!
