Dimmer switch

I went to town in my truck tonight, first time ive drove it at night since deer season closed. When i go from dim back to high beam there is a like a 2 second pause before the light come back on.. It does fine from high beam to dim.. I assume this is the first stages of needing a dimmer switch?

Ohh yea its a 92 toy truck ,

My '94 pickup is doing the exact same thing... it started off just having that short delay, but now it is to the point where the highs wont come on at all unless i play around with the switch (high/low/high/low)... Sometimes that works but most of the time it doesnt, so i just have low beams. It just keeps getting worse tho, sometimes the dims wont come on either after trying for high beams. I'm thinking its just the switch but i'm holding out to replace my entire column with a tilt setup and do it all at once. Let use know what you find out.

I wonder how hard it is to replace 1 on the column? Going into a steering column intimidates me!! I haven't had a whole lot of luck in the past

If you search the forums you will find this is a common problem. I had this problem on my 94 4runner, the highbeams didn't work. I took the steering wheel off and gave the switch and few taps with a screw driver and now the high beams work perfectly. I don't know if this has worked for anyone else, but its cheaper than buying a new switch.

Just a follow up. I fixed my headlights today. It seemed a bit different from the writeup on the link listed here but after a little tinkering around I ended up sanding some contacts in the combo switch and using electronic safe spray to clear out some of the built up trash in it. Highs/Lows work great now. If you need help just ask. Pulled the wheel, removed lower dash (beneath wheel), removed steering column cover, removed entire combo switch, removed the combo switch for the headlights, popped off the plastic cover, sanded down the contacts and sprayed away. And put it all back together. Be careful if you do it there is a little (ball) that you may have to deal with, it comes out if you take your headlight switch lever off (dont remember if you have to do that or not) but if you do be careful to put the little metal ball back where it came from. PM or email me bitafh@gmail.com if you need help.
