Diagnostic code interpretation problem 87 22RE

Something for the Yota masters:
Im trying to work through troubleshooting the EFI system. Shorted the diagnostic box and I got the no code signal flash every 4.5 seconds. Problem is that according to the Toyota manual that is the code for the 22RTE, not the 22RE, I checked the ECU box and it appears to be the right part: 89661-35070, is there another part that is generating the code, is the ECU set up wrong, or is this a non issue.

you must have a different manual than i do. my 1987 toyota truck & 4runner gasoline repair manual shows that codes 1 to 13 are for both 22re and 22rte versions. code 14 only applies to 22rte versions.

I thing I'm missing some here, Wally where did he give an actual trouble code?... I thought I was reading he had the slow constant flash indicating no stored codes.

That’s right, it appears to be the wrong no stored codes signal. As I was going through the EFI section, the 02 sensor is also in the location for the 22R-TE. The rig has gone through a couple of hands, so I’m looking to see if something is farm rigged wrong.

no, it isn’t incorrect. code 1 is the “no codes stored” signal, which is the same for both, as i stated.

Mine is saying 0.25 second intervals for 22RE. I assumed this was a misprint, or not a big deal.

My manual was a pdf so I only have index page and after. Says Toyota Truck and 4Runner repair manual and the bottom left corner says copyright 1987 Toyota Motor Corp.

Yeah they fixed this, 1/4s blinks are way to fast to count, fixed in the next paragraph..

The cruise control computer in mine still uses this duty cycle and I have to video it then go back through it frame by frame to count them

this is the only exception for a 22rte:

i don’t know what your sources are, nor colorado’s, but my ‘87 behaves exactly as described in these photos.

You have here a "RM046U", not sure what print edition.

The RM077U, has quite a few translation errors. I think the 1986 that got scanned (PDF) has quite a few also.

back cover has:

printed in japan
01-860822-00
03-870820-03

this rm046u has plenty of translation errors. however, the discrepancy between 1.5 vs. 4.5 seconds is not translational; it is flat out erroneous.
