Deckplate Question

I am new to toyota's and i recently bought a 1st gen runner. i keep reading about a deckplate and im wondering exactly what this term refers too. what is the purpose/benefit, why would i need one etc. thanks guys.

welcome to yotatech .... its mostly a 3rd gen thing it allows more air into the engine which means a little better gas mileage https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f130/deckplate-mod-75169/

thanks that answers the question perfectly, growing up in the four wheeler world it is what we call an air-box mod. but its the exact same consept.
