Hello All, just a quick question, what is the purpose of the Dash Pot on Throttle Body?

Without one if you released the throttle suddenly unburned fuel would go out the tailpipe.

The dash pot causes the throttle to return to idle slowly allowing the engine to burn the fuel more completely. I think.

Marc is correct.

Another definition might suggest a hiding place, but I won't get into that.

x2

Also, it adds to drivability by not allowing the throttle to slam close. Mine isn't quite 100% and when I let off the gas, it jerks the truck sometimes.

I've never heard ANYTHING about it preventing unburned fuel.....

HOWEVER, it DOES slow the throttle drop to make shifts smoother (you won't find it on the auto tranny, which sorta negates the unburned fuel thing...

My auto has it as well. not really sure if it does anything or not? Just looks like some extra thing they tossed in there.
