dash cluster

I am wanting to replace the bulbs for my dash cluster on my 89-4runner. I have serached and found the threads I need for the removal and replacement of bulbs. The issue I am having is there does not seem to be enough slack in the speedo-cable to get behind it for removal. Am I missing something?

From what I remember, you really have to get your fingers in there and "unclip" the cable from the cluster.

It was a bitch for me to get out and put back in since there is little space.

Don't be scared to give it a little tug if needed, there is a lot of slack in the cable.

It helped me a lot to take the cable off of the little metal clip that holds it on the firewall going down to the tranny, gives you an inch or so but it makes a huge difference when getting to that clip, although I have a 91 pu I think it's the same?

Thanks for the help guys. I saw that the metal clip on the firewall, I will take it off tomorrow and see if I can get my mitts in there.
