Damn it's 3.slo!

FINALLY got my fresh engine and new clutch installed.
1st rebuild I got had a leak inside the exhaust port.
Only to be found once I had the engine installed and ready to fire.
This engine is stock except cams 222 dur/ .400" lift
Suppose to be 190hp/210ftlbs but DAMN its SLO!
I even did the ISR mod. Cuz that's some lbs there!
Pulls good but I guess I'm use to V8's
Oh well glad I didn't bother w/ headers I can't see them helping THAT much
Might have to replace the stock muffler cuz it's a monster.

The 5vze motor is the 190hp motor, but the 3vze aka 3.slow is only 140hp. There is no way you can get a 50hp gain with just a cam. Sounds like your 3vze has the common power issue, does your motor run good until it warms and the computer hits closed loop mode?

No.

The 3vze has 150hp @ 4800rpm and 180tq at 3800rpm. Cams will net about 15-20hp as is. Add 1mm oversized valves, PNP, and headers, and wham you will be over 190hp.... (Headers, 1mm oversized valves, and PNP has been dyno confirmed to gain 30rwhp putting the 3vze at the 180 mark without the help of cams.)

I have 259* duration camshafts in mine with 0.410" lift, the PNP, and 1mm oversized valves, waiting on headers still...

This has yet to be proven with dyno sheets only words. Bumpin, get your exhaust done, go dyno that beast, and I'll go get a dyno sheet to make you cry about any money you put into 3.slow

Most people belive that you get a intake 8-15hp + exhaust 20-25hp + cams 25-30hp + valves 30hp.....sweet I now have a 230hp 3.0! All theses mods working togeather will get you 30 hp. So you get a 180hp engine for the cost of more then a 3.4 swap.

3.0 are great stock, they move the vehicle and can last a long time. They are not built for high performance.

Ah you're right but the first year 3vze did have somthing near 140hp, but the latter years had 150hp. After owning a good running '94 3vze I think when they are running tip top they are great, but would be really surprised if you can squeeze that much power out of it.

Why the heck not? Mine pulls a camper at 10k feet no problem. 90mph of a 7% grade no, but it does pull it easy enough. A bit of rowing involved. Again though, I didn't buy the thing to get me anywhere in a hurry just get there. It'll maintain 65 or 70 up steep hills - that's all I need. I really don't need to be running 100mph up Floyd Hill.

Nope don't need it to run 100mph up Floyd but it sure does make you feel slow when your maintaining the speed limit and everyone else is flying by at 100mph next to you!! My 3.0 auto pisses me off going up that hill man.

Ah yes - always forget about that. I have a stick and go up pretty good, singing "row, row, row your Toyota, roughly up the hill"!

I've driven a few 2nd gens and they make my 3.4 feel quick but in reality even the 3rd gen V6 is pretty slow on the takeoff. I ran 18.9@73mph at the Truckfest last year up here in Denver.

110 mph? Downhill w/ a tailwind!
Towing 600-700 lbs is like 1 sled and trailer. Then there's extra gas and gear.
2 sleds w/ trailer is like 1400-1500lbs.
I can chrip the 35" on my Burban what does that have to do w/ towing though?

3.0 not a race motor

[QUOTE]
Oh well glad I didn't bother w/ headers I can't see them helping THAT much . ((((Headers will not only give you a little Hp but helps from blowing headgaskets))) I like my 3.0 it has alot more tork an power than the trusty 22re. It's no race car but does what it was made to do

Maybe yours is down on power? I think my neighbor's camper I tow from time to time is like 1200lbs. When I took it over Berthoud Pass (11,300ft) I was still doing 50 or so at the top.

Heck, he pulls it with a Suzuki!

Not sure where mine'll top out but I've had it doing over 100 more than once. It runs 85 on my morning commute no problem. Not saying it's fast but you act like it'll barely move......that stuff about being unable to pull 1500lbs is just plain nonsense. People pull more than that with 4-bangers all the time.

Plus you read 8yota9's post wrong. He had 6 or 7 hundred pounds of stuff PLUS 5 80lb mortar bags (400lbs) PLUS 50 cinder blocks (sheesh - I dunno, another thousand??). That's a LOT more weight than a couple of sleds.
