cyl 2 and 3- 0 compression

I have recently acquired a 1989 5 speed reg cab toyota pickup. The po converted it from efi to carb. has holley 350 cfm 2 bbl carb, offenhauser intake, and headers.

I have almost zero experience with gasoline engines so bear with me please.

The po said it had a blown head gasket. Upon receiving the truck I drained oil and coolant, no signs of cross contamination. next I did a compression test and got 1-120, 2-0, 3-0, 4-?( spark plug hole was stripped). after that I tore into it and found the head gasket wholly intact. I flipped the head over and saw no problems with the valves. I have scrapped the heads off and haven't found any cracks. Bottom end does not seem messed up besides a lot of carbon build up in 2 and 3. no cracks or scoring in cylinders. going to send heads off for magnafluxing and straightness check.

I will try to attatch a few pics of the heads for yall to look at, my main wonder is the po said that in order to convert from efi to carb the shop had to weld emmissions stuff up on the heads. I see no spots that were welded, just that alan head plug which im guessing shouldnt be there.

only one more question which may be a stupid one. how do the valves come out of the heads?

just read through articles and did some research. As I said I have zero experiance in gasolines because I am a diesel guy. found out about the toyota diesel engines but only found one place in florida who has 2L's but no 2LT's and he wants 1500 for the 2L's. Next I was looking into the vw 1.9idi but apparently nobody has any of those either so I am left with the vw tdi.

How much trouble would it be to stick a tdi in a yota pickup. the trans would obviously have to be adapted and the motor mounts custom but I work at a machine shop so no biggie there. My main concern is how to control the ecu on the tdi.
