Cv boot reinstall question

Hey everybody,

Ripped a outer cv boot on my truck its a 1992 ext cab with a 3.0 v6 4 by 4. anyways got the axle out of the front and all taken apart ready to be put back together but I am just wondering what the gold fluid in the knuckle part of the axle is.

Its on the inside, on the side of the axle where it bolts up to the front diff, what kind of fluid is this? Its goldish in color.
Thank you Patrick

Yeah its got the little bearing knuckle in there, its inside the axle not the diff you have to take this part off to get the boots off, you take the snap ring off and then slide the bearings out then the rest its the fluid in there

looks like old worn out grease to me. I would just re-pack it and call it good but that's just my opinion. It seems pretty thick like grease right and probably smells like grease yeah? Maybe some one will chime in and confirm that it is what it is.
