So I am in the middle of replacing my passenger side CV Axle with a donor CV axle that I picked up. It was from a 90-95 4Runner 4X4. But I noticed that the two are completely different where the end of the shaft meets the differential. So my question is, "is this still compatible with my 88' 4Runner?"

Autozone is showing the same cv for both the 88 and 95 4runners. Run it. Maybe one of them is an aftermarket? I haven't checked the toyota part number but maybe they changed slightly in design.

 

Hmm...sounds a little more at ease, thx. Is there anyone that could help bring in some light so that way I can be sure before I slap this thing in there?

Bingo! Same P/N's, one is most likely aftermarket.

The axle on the top (with the 3 circles in the backing) is OEM. The one with the flat plate (middle picture) is aftermarket.

Aftermarket axles are weaker, made of inferior metal. But if you don't go offroading much nor are very hardcore, it will work just fine.

 

Thx everyone, I just swapped them over and everything seems great so far. I don't do a whole lot of wheeling, the truck is mainly my DD and might hit some light trails but other than that, it should do. SAS is in the near future so this will have to do for now .
