Crunch time !! Sickening
Well my 88 fell victim to a elderly old lady who did not yield and I was too close to her to stop. While fixable I know the ins will probably want to total. Hopefullly since I have Hagerty's classic ins on it they will fight for me for Allstate to cough up and fix it ?? Be safe out there guys.... Hard to even be mad as she looked like Betty White and kept apologizing. People make mistakes but I hate it for my cool ole yota. At least other than sore both drivers was not hurt

If they do want to total it fight for every dime you have in it.
I fought S Farm (IIRC) over a 60's Econoline Pickup I had done a lot of work on.
It took some time and playing hardball, like upping the price each time we talked vs caving in to them, but I got a "reasonable" payout.
I also got the truck back and parted it out which got me more $$

Collision coverage is for when you are at fault IIRC. Since it wasn't your fault that doesn't apply here.

). I told the insurance folks I was keeping the car. They wanted a few hundred bucks for the "scrap value", which they kept from the settlement. I repaired the car myself and put 'er back on the road with a "salvage" title. This was in New Mexico. If letting the insurance company have the vehicle post wreck you would at some point have to sign the title and give it to them, assuming you own it outright. AFAIK you always have the option to keep it.

In my experience dealing with claims on vehicles I didn't have comp/collision policies for, once liability/fault is determined the insurance company on the "not at fault" side is no longer part of the deal. In that case you are on your own dealing with the "at fault" driver's insurance company.
Do you have comprehensive/collision on the vehicle through Hagerty? Would they work for you in dealing with Allstate if it saves them claim money? Perhaps. Wish I could tell you for sure!
Good luck! And let us know how it works out.

A few years ago one of my old Benzes was hit by a lady who ran a red light and the insurance company totaled the vehicle. The damage was superficial, but they totaled it due to lack of repair parts (they didn't know I had a donor vehicle in my yard

Those cons are worth considering, for sure. It depends on the situation, and on what the owner of the vehicle is willing to deal with. For me none of those cons were a factor. I repaired the car for much less than we got from the settlement and we enjoyed it for a couple more years. My basic liability insurance did not cost any more than before the wreck. And we bought another Toyota truck with some of the money from the settlement (a pretty nice little '82 2WD long bed)!
