Cruise control light flashes intermittently

Sorry if this has already been discussed I've done a search and could not find a definitive solution.

Occasionally my cruise control will not set. When this happens the cruise light will come on but when I push the cruise set button the light will begin to flash and the cruise doesn't set. Retrying the cruise button and set button fails to set the unit. However, I have found that if I step on the brake and scrub off some speed I can then operate the cruise control.

So I'm thinking the brake light switch is sticking on intermittently and plan on investigating same this week end. Are there any other places/switches/sensors I should also clean?

Thanks

maybe there is a problem with the cruise control-control unit...
by that, i mean the brain that controls the cruise...

you probably have an auto, check out any of the links at the top of the page for the factory service manuals, look in transmission section, troubleshooting or codes. therein lies your answer.
