just get good new parts and dont worry about it for another 20 years.. it cost less money to spend more money, in the long run.. like when i quote someone for an engine rebuild, if you dont like my price have the other guy do it for less, ill make the money back when i have to fix it.

The timing mark and the key way should be lined up with each other, if there not the balancer is bad and needs to be replaced.

I'm almost positive the "rubber" pulleys are from a 2WD 22R and not a 4WD.

And the "rubber" isn't "rubber". It's the glue that holds the two, b/c they are not the same, pieces together...

This post reserves the right to be wrong.... B/c I'm a 96% 22R 4WD guy...

Also pretty sure EVERY V6 is a two piece too.

There is no difference in the balancers from a 2WD or a 4WD, there all the same.

im having a similar problem with my crank pulley on my 94. There is two pulleys on the crank and the one that turns the alt. is moving back and forth on whatever it is pressed on. Is that the balancer also. Im in the middle of taking it off. Im having trouble getting the bolt loose that holds the front pulley on. Once that is off does both pulleys slide off together?

Don't you mean the SHAFT is grooved, from the oil seal. If so, sleeve it.

If I remember correctly, there are 2 pulley pieces. One takes the Crank pulley Bolt and has 4 threaded holes in it. The other bolts to the 1st via the 4 small threaded holes.
I've seen the small bolts loosen up and oval the holes, thus allowing the front pulley to not stay in one place. Being as that was on a 1.6L Miata, it made it IMPOSSIBLE to set the timing. . . But that shouldnt be the case with the 22R series Toyota motor.

When I rebuilt my buddies 22re, I had to put the truck in gear, with the parking brake on and I think have him hold the brakes for me to be able to get the Crank Pulley bolt loosened. . . I think we did the same to torque it also...
