I was wondering what the cost was to go R134 from R12 in your areas?

After A guy told me 8-1000 to do the job, I went and bought an A/C kit from ACKITS for 400 bucks, and will do it myself.

I replaced the compressor on my Tundra yesterday, and used the new tools to vacuum and charge the system.

After I do the 89 truck, the tools will be paid for with the savings.

 

Converted my 84 for under $150

 

I'm not to sure but what I know all you have to do is change all the gaskets and seals to convert gases. right?

 

Brian you must have done all the work yourself at that price?

NorCal, I think you have to flush the system.

 

i put the adapters on the lines on a 86 i had and put the r 134 in. a air conditioner man told me by the time the seals and other parts gave any trouble, it would most likely need work any way. i spoke to the man i sold the truck to and after 3 years it was still working good. i am not going to say it was right or not but that is my 2 cents.

 

Changed out everything needed. My buddy Jon did the work, flushed, recharged everything.

It takes freon to make the A/C system work.

 

Green o-rings $10, receiver-dryer $25, recharge kit $45, vacuum pump -free loaner from Auto-zoo

 

i was under the impression that it was just the fittings that were different...

my '86 has already been converted though

pretty sure my '92 is R-134 too, right?

 

i need to learn as much as possible my truck didnt come with a/c.. and it sucks to drive it the hot summer days...

i got a few parts but i really havent looked into everything i need to set it up.

 

I'm converting to R134a while replacing a bad compressor on my truck. The dealer nearby quoted me $550 just for the R134a conversion.

Picked up a new compressor ($215), drier ($15), and expansion valve ($10) from ackits.com.

Green o-rings ($10) and 4 R134a service ports (2 hi / 2 low - $20)

I also bought some flush ($15) to purge the lines

 

i wonder how much toyota would charge to install a complet a/c sytem in my truck?

gotta start out with the highest quote first

 

ACKits.com are good people with a good forum. I bought some nitrogen from the local welding supply house to purge/dry everything after the flush, when I do the 89 truck.

I hope it gets thru this year.

$800 to $1k is tooo much.

 

i coulda sworn a few years ago, someone came up with a R12 clone that was good for the environment and 100% compatible...

Hello, I think you should take into account that doing it yourself may be inexpensive, but if you do one thing wrong, or just leak all the Freon into the atmosphere and are reported, then that�s a $20k fine and prison time.
