Coolant Temp. Sensor/Switch

ok guys..my temp. guage shoots up to HOTTTTT but the truck is running cool(or just fine temperature wise) figured out the coolant temp.sensor is bad..the end of it(the end inside the intake) is broken off and the spring is showing..ok..get a new one..fixed the problem..few mins later it starts dripping fluid..so i took it out..and guess what...the D@#$ thing is broken just like the last one.......in the EXACT same place..so now i not only have to figure out why it keeps breaking..i have to take the intake off to get the broken piece out..

i now need a picture of a STOCK 1986 22r Coolant temp. sensor/switch..

book says its a sensor..parts store says its a switch...its under the neck of the thermo housing on the intake.. we thought it was the sensor on top of the thermo housing..but its not..idk what that is..

so anyways...i need a pic of this said sensor/switch..because obviously the one at the parts store is wrong..

you have the coolant bypass switch in that posistion??? is that what your refering to? there was an over the top, way to in depth thread on this I read this morning. about 5 pages of the spring tension to the type of glue that seals it together. It was crazy how people just nuked the crap out of it.

well if there is an air pocket in ur intake getting to ur throttle body it'll miss real bad and if it did this too long or ur efi computer was registering a high temperature it could have dumped more fuel in than should have. check ur plugs, jump ur e1 and te1 and check ur timing at the proper rpm..its all simple stuff and ill try and keep reminding myself to check this thread....
which hole did u end up installing the sensor in? cause i actually have some guages i wanted to install and havent looked but dont know where to install it.

**add on to previous statement..
it sounds like it would have somthing to do with fuel and air but my concern is that when u got the coolant sensor reading properly maybe its not getting enough fuel now and too much air..crap i dont know (if you have any possible details that might help let me know ill try my damndest to help you out..check ignition and timing..but before getting technical; start with the air filter and clean (if u can) the air flow meter with proper cleaner and check it then. possible a dirty air intake sensor/meter or a dirty air filter.

Hey CAMO, sorry to resurrect this, lol.........

Does the 22R, not RE, Carbed Motor have it's own type of "Coolant Temp Sensor"? Not the Temp Gauge I'm referring to...... Rather, one that would adjust carburetor via ECU stuffs? I know it doesn't have a Cold Start Injector, etc., lol.... Just curious on the CTS portion as I couldn't answer someone who is having an issue with a 22r that seems similar to my issue that was caused by the CTS.....

Thanks, man........ just throwing it out there. Hope you're well!

The 22r doesn't have a CTS, like the 22re.
22r emissions are controlled by the carb- choked when cold, electrical/vacuum pull off when the throttle's opened, etc., as well as the O2 sensor once it's warmed up, advancing / retarding timing (with the non-weight/spring equipped distributors) and/or air pump/PAIR ... all depending on year and locale.
