coolant overflow

I have an 88 toyota 4x4 with a 22re. Engine was rebuilt 3 years ago. I have never had cooling issues. At the end of a 45 minute drive, coolant overflows from expansion tank. However, the temp gauge does not indicate overtemp. If its actually overheating it should indicate as such.

My first try i replaced the radiator cap and filled radiator. let engine warm up and bleed air out then cap the radiator. I drove to work just fine, no overflow, then on return trip it overflows.

Oil level indication seem fine with no coolant visible on dipstick as i was afraid of blown head gasket. I would replace the thermstat as a troubleshooting step, but my temp gauge should read overheating and its not.

Waterpump? or fan clutch maybe?

coolant loss

im going to replace the thermostat first. Inspection of the oil looks normal. Another toyota guys said its a stuck open thermostat. Its a quick and easy try. If that doesnt work then i will have engine inspected for any problems.

Flush it if you haven't in a while. A very thorough flushing.
