I bought a 1989 4wd Pickup (22RE 5-speed) that has some problems. While fixing them, I had planned to change the fuel filter. Went out to the truck, popped the hood and saw that the fuel filter for this truck is the carb version (with two hoses going into a V-type connector at the top of the filter).

The EFI version that I bought has one connection at each end of the filter (top and bottom), and uses banjo bolts to connect the fuel line hoses.

The engine in my truck is definitely a 22RE (fuel injected). I'm wondering if the carb version fuel filter might be problematic for my engine. The two filters are different sizes, the EFI version is much smaller, so is it ok to use the fuel filter from the 22R on the 22RE engine?

If I shouldn't just replace the fuel filter with an identical 22R fuel filter, I will convert to the 22RE. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy the banjo bolts for those hoses? Are there any issues with converting my fuel filter that I should know about?

The positive thing about this particular problem is that I can mount my fuel filter in the engine bay, avoiding that crappy stock location under the intake.
