The nice thing about this hobby is you can buy what you can afford and build it as you can. He made it reversible so if he needs to use it as a people carrier he can. Its dual purpose. Isnt that what most people strive for? Maybe he didnt want to trade it for a piuck up knowing he might need it as a people carrier someday too. His bases are covered. In todays economy not everyone can afford just to run out and just buy something different when for alot cheaper you can make what you have work. Necessity is the mother of invention. I dont know about everyone else..but I have to admire someone who knows what they need, and despite everyone telling him no, goes and makes what he has work for what he needs. And isnt that the core of our hobby? Isnt that why the first person said hmmm...I like my 2nd gen but i wish it had a solid axle, decided to take a solid axle from an 84 and transplant it to his 94? To make it do what he wanted it to. I bet people called him dumb too. I for one will just say props to you for making what you need and not trading your 1st gen in on a newer pick up so that a dealership can just ship that 1st gen to a scrapyard for recycling. And just so you all know and can yell at me too..I plan on doing this mod asap too, and i do have the factory rear seat delete pan

Update! Filled the gap between the cab and the fiberglass part, new paint, filled the hole at the top of the tailgate and a black bumper, why not! I love it!

You can always change it back if you want.I thought about an option also.I think a soft top and maybe a plastic bed liner for the occasions when you need a truck. Then you could just throw the soft top back up when you're done.I gotta have somewhere for the family to sit.I think it looks good and it is yours.A extended cab sounds good also as someone mentioned earlier.

Looks good. I like to see people trying new things and making them work. Don't worry about all the haters. They just got nothing better to do.

Thanks for the comments! I love the way it looks and it's functionality. My only concern is rust, I will need to do something to protect my bed.

As for the rear seats for the family to sit, we'll just use my fiancee VW Jetta ;P

looks great! i'm in the midst of doing the same to my '87 22re. Curious to know how u attached the "canopy" to the cab? I'm also going to make an attempt on installing the rear sliding glass.

Nice! Post pics of your progress!

To attach the "canopy" to the cab, i simply used the existing holes at the bottom and drilled a second pair of holes to ensure it won't move. It is holding tight and does not move at all, even if it is bolted only with 4 screws. I used fiberglass to fill the gap between the cab and the part.

kinda reminds me of a blazer that i did, it was just an rusted out offroad rig, the body mounts were sticking threw the floor on the 4 rear body mounts so i just cut the whole back off

does that back window still crank down into the tailgate? that's what i was suggesting he do with his as well. with the power regulator a 4runner tailgate has, that would be very cool.

Opinions, everyone has them and they ain't always whet everyone else wants to hear. Plus it's the internet so people will defend them to the death with no fear of real confrontion. As for the truck, I personally like it. As said, it's reversable if need be and it's useful for current needs. I wouldn't have painted the little cab 'backing' but it's not in my driveway. Enjoy your truck the way YOU want it! Thats what I do...

finished converting '87 T4R into "pick-up"

pretty much done my "conversion", good timing too, because it's getting cold up here and we're definetely going to be getting more snow soon! the cab heats up so much faster, and i never have any passengers, so i'm glad i did it!
