Can someone please let me know what the 3 plugs are that are attached to the plate that bolts to the valve cover on the 22RE….just to clear up any confusion, my 4 runner is a 87 but I was told the motor is out of a newer toyota (not sure of the yr)….mine has the plate the has like 3 plugs but i don't have the male ends that connect to them. I have a few wires just laying up there that look like the plug was cut off??? I'm wondering if these connectors affect anything major or don't apply to my older 4 runner since it came out of a newer vehicle…any info would be greatly appreciated…THIS SITE IS THE BEST by the way!!!

 

Yes the plate mounted valves is a newer style. I did a HG on a 92 truck and it had them but my 86 Runner only has 2, one in front and one at the rear.

They are VSV and I'd imagine you could get by using 2 for what the year requires.

Do you have a vacuum hose diagram on the underside of the hood?

 

i'm not positive about that, I would have to look…the vehicle ran before but had an issue with a high idle no matter what…I don't know if one of those plugs could have something to do with that or not?

 

Are their vacuum hoses attached to them?

If not you probably have a vacuum leak which would cause the high idle.

 

These look like they would be electrical connectors and not have any vacuum lines to them...it's possible I could have a vacuum leak somewhere else but my first concern is does my 87 need those 2 or 3 plugs hooked up in the valve cover

 

they are electrical plugs that go into VSV's one is for AC one is for EGR and the other is used for PAIR system i believe. I have since removed mine along with my PAIR and EGR delete. your high idle could be because of a little plug with 2 vac lines that come off it located below TB. Mine had one line broken on it so my cold idle was like 2000-2200 RPM until it warmed up.
