Conditioning Vacuum Diaphragm?

I just got a used replacement distributor because mine was damaged in a few ways. I was wondering if there is any reason not to add some vinyl conditioner or silicone spray to the both sides of the diaphragms through the vacuum ports and actuator arm hole?

Has anyone done anything similar to extend the life of the distributor vacuum advance diaphragms?

Thanks,
