compression test question

compression test question
hey guys for 1992 4runner v6 3.0, what are the usuall results on the compression air,the average psi, im not sure if im doing it right... if i hold on the gas petal wheel turning the engine over i get a diff result if im not pressing down on the petal. so my ? is what are the average result that comes up.. 150psi , etc?
i only did passenger side ..getting late.. the clouds are moving in so i stop for now
and i let the truck warm up for 15-20mins, disconnect the distributor and the coil.. \

on the passenge side.. from the front to the back 1 - 150psi. 2 - 150 psi 3 170... the driver side havnt done yet.. if this makes it easier to help answer my ?

The throttle should be fully open for compression testing, you won't get enough air in otherwise. The factory manual lists compression specs for the 3.0 as follows:
Normal - 171 psi
Minimum - 142 psi
Maximum variance between cylinders - 14 psi
I've never tested one so I don't know what the normal results for an engine as old as yours is.

to do this? what are the steps. i just want to be on the right page.. explain how so i can do it right now since the sun is shinning

Warm the engine up like you did before, remove the plugs, disconnect the ignition and block the throttle open, either with someone pushing the pedal down or opening it at the throttle body. Test the compression.
Any cylinders that are low retest again after squirting about 1 oz of oil in them. If the compression gets higher with the oil then you've probably got worn rings, if it doesn't then it's valves or the headgasket.

~~~Update~~~ i just let the mechanic deal with it.. 180 all around.. my problem was the valve seals.. so getting them replace.. my heads service.. new timing belt.belts. water pump.. idle bearing, belt tenisoner replace..fuel filter.. going to be under 1500 im guess.. havent been told on the final price
