Cold Start Switch covered in oil???

Cold Start Switch covered in oil???

I posted this in my build up thread but got no response... I'd really appreciate any suggestions you may have.

I was under the hood the other day and noticed that directly under my EFI tube (45 degree elbow), the wires (i think it is the cold start switch) are covered in oil, and the bottom of the elbow it is caked with dry oil and grease. Suggestions???

Take the elbow off and degrease that area. Make sure to cover intake and alt. Run the Runner and keep checking that area for leaks.

I just don't understand where the oil would be coming from in that area... from behind the switch?

Do you know for sure it's oil and not coolent? Put your finger on it and smell. Both sensors there have coolent going to them.

I'm pretty sure it is oil on the elbow, the wires could be coolant... It just seems strange that the wires in the switch are wet... like something above them is leaking, but when i investigate it, there is no leak... is there a way that the switch could be leaking?

If the cold start switch was leaking it would be coolent. I'd clean it all up, dry everything run it up to operating temp. While its idling look for any leaks. If you don't see anything, dive normal for a few days and then check.

Thanks man... will do. I'm parting out my 87 tomorrow so it'll be a bit before i get to it but i'll update you.

I had that same problem, my temp sensor and the cold start time switch covered in fresh oil. I later found out that it was coming from the mechanical fuel pump block off plate. I replaced the gasket and no more oil (:
