Cold Compression Test?

Only only ask because my motor is torn down to the valve cover. I wish i did one when the motor was running. so my question is, is a compression test done with the motor cold a viable way to test the cylinder compression relative to each other or a complete waste of time?

here is what i got

2-132 1-145
4-140 2-135
6-135 6-135

and is it also safe to say these figures and low but with a worm engine would most likely be over the 142 mark.

Sorry for the asking a question that is borderline retarded.

Is that dry or wet? Did you do multiple tests and average them? Is this a rental gauge, they're known not to be really acurate and out of calibration alot of the time?

They're within the balance spec of 14#, max difference is 13 on yours.

This is of course just one guys oppinion. "Meh they could be alot worse, I'd say it's not bad for cold"

Spec is to do it with warm engine, VAFM & IGNITOR unplugged, ALL spark plugs out, wide open throttle. Turn over no more than 6 times. It really requires 2 people to do correctly. Warm engine would make a little difference, nut the main thing you're looking for is CONSISTENCY across all cylinders.

Yes rental, looked fairly new, or in good shape. I did do the test a few times seemed pretty consistent. Just trying to get a better picture before i dump a lot more money in replacing stuff. I wish i did it prior to tear down, started digging in and my shopping list of parts kept growing, pretty normal with this truck.

Have you pulled ECU codes? Why did you initially tear the engine down?

Pulled it apart cause the water pump started leaking and the cam plugs are leaking. Got the timing cover off and the valve covers off. I had to spend but $150 in hoses alone. I'm sure this is said a lot but, slowly but surly changing every part on my truck'but I still love it!
