Cold air intake on 3.0 V6
I have a 1992 3.0 V6 and I was wondering if anyone has put a K&N cold air intake on these and noticed much. I read that the 22re was pretty much a joke to put on and to go stock, but I haven't read if the 3.0 V6 had the same effect. Any information would be good especially those who have actually done this, Thanks!

I have one on my V6. K&N says it makes an extra 8 horsepower. I'd say maybe 1 or 2 make it to the ground. When I installed it, there was a small increase in power......small, but noticeable. I noticed slightly better gas mileage, and it seems to accelerate quicker. It was actually somewhat fun to drive with 31" tires. Make sure to keep the filter clean, though. It also makes a growling noise at idle, and makes a sucking sound when I floor it. I'm used to it now, and it's really not loud, but you do notice it.
Overall, if I didn't have one, I would probably just have done the ISR mod, and make a custom air tube and cone filter. You can do that for under $60, and it yields basically the same result. The K&N unit will cost nearly $300 new. I got mine for free, so I don't have any regrets.
You can get one if you want, since the gains aren't too bad, but I'd definitely check out the ISR mod on here.

Ive had one for years, if I had to do it over again I think I would have got a K&N drop in filter and done a deck plate mod to my air box. I have a Borla cat back, K&N fipk and a magnaflow high flow cat and still, to be 100% honest other than the annoying noise that the exhaust and the intake make there really was minimal power increase..... The 3.0 is just a fuel hungry, low power dog of an engine!!! Now, Ive been eyeballing one of these to attempt a conversion in my 1988, how sick would this be?

I have a friend who has one for his '06 taco and is willing to give it to me if it will fit. Does anyone know if it will work on my '99 4runner?? I may end up just trying it if I ever find the time...

Thorley and NWOR.
Another poor man's option is the "crossover elimination mod" where you lose the crossover, block the crossover port on the driver's side manifold and route the passenger manifold outlet straight down and around the transmission, and rejoin right before the O2 sensor.
So many mods, so little time....

my 94 3vze came with a k&n cold air intake, its not too loud and i dont really think you get too much more horsepower. But keep it clean and you get a little more acceleration, it's only a little more but it's deffinetly noticable. I personally would't have spent the money on one but i bought the truck with it so it's a bonus haha.

On cold days the K&N seems to have great acceleration and even some extra power but as soon as the outside temp starts to rise this add-on becomes an annoyance rather than a performance part. You end up drawing alot of hot air from the engine compartment rather than from the outside air. So went ahead and did the ISR mod and used the factory housing. Will add new K&N filter for the factory housing. Hope this helps

I personally don't have headers but do plan on some in the near future.
