code 25

So, just after the first full tank of gas through my rebuilt 22re (94 pickup) Federal emissions. I got a check engine light. 2-5.

First 100 miles after the rebuild, it's mainly a gopher type vehicle, extremely short higher speeds, mostly shorter, lower speeds. Today was really cold, and took it to town 35 miles of constant 60mph. The return trip into the wind (working the engine pretty hard) is when the code popped.
I did the LCe egr/air injection delete.. complete with 10k ohm resistor in place of the egr sensor.

During the engine removal, I noticed the body wiring to the 02 sensor was burnt basically in half against the exhaust pipe, just before the plug at the sensor. So I 'shortened' up the body wiring by 6 inches and soldered, and shrink wrapped the new spices. Reused the old 02 sensor, as the pigtail seemed good.
I'm quite certain it's an airtight system from the head to the 02 sensor.
Somewhere I read I can jumper the diagnostic dock, and then proceed to read voltage created by the sensor. it should be sweeping up and down for volts. If 'stuck' on either 0 or 5 volts (can't remember which for lean) Then it's either a bad sensor, or my 'splice' is faulty?
Does the 'heated' part of the sensor run continuously, or does it shut down after the exhaust gets it hot enough? Just wanting to 'test' all my splices, and was wanting to check (from the unplugged plug) for voltage too.

It's definitely burning extra fuel to compensate!!
The sensor in there now has about 100k miles on it, I'm wondering about if when the harness was burnt through, the sensor may have been subjected to voltage to parts that may not appreciate it! I'll get that changed out first.
Is there a thread that shows how to test the health of the 02 circuitry?

Thanks! Time for a little 'digging' and probing.
