Chrome elimination

Hey guys,

My 93 pickup has chrome windshield trim, little chrome pieces in the vent windows, and chrome door handles. I'd like them all to be black instead.

I'm going to call a glass shop on Monday, but from the reading I've done, it appears that the windshield seal would have to be replaced with a black one. Is that correct?

The vent windows might be a little more tricky. I looked closely at the vent window trim pieces and the edges were black, maybe if I sand them down it will get through the chrome?

I'm thinking my only option for the door handles is replacement, is that correct?

Thanks

You can sand and paint them.

Sem sells a good flat trim black

I'd experiment with the black Plasti-dip product first. Take time to tape everything like you would for painting, then lay on some coats. If you don't like it you peel it off and start over. But it will go over chrome if you use their prep product.

I'd try painting the trim, seems simple enough. I'm not a fan of the look plasti dip gives, it looks fake and plasticy, I'd use paint. The door handles would likely need the most prep work due to the wear it will see. You may find it faster and easier to order plain door handles on eBay. I know my chrome handles are recently starting to bubble after 23 years.

Thanks guys

I think I'm going to try and plasti dip the trim on the vent Windows and windshield. I found a couple sets of black door handles at the junk yard today, are the key cores swappable? I can just grab a set there and swap my key cores in if that's possible.

your lock cylinders should be swappable.
